well, at that point you start discussing the topic itself, instead of metadiscussing it

ubq323 #4308

interesting

I really don't have the brains or energy to implement some compressed image format like PNG,

maybe you could look at QOI ("Quite OK Image format") (spec)? it's supposed to be quite simple to implement while still providing decent compression. i don't know much about it beyond this though

perhaps it is simply a much more difficult means of writing a normal computer program. one that makes the program slightly more annoying and inconvenient to run, [...]

software that is made in a deliberately odd or confusing or weird way Just Because is always fun and cool, imo

how so?

ubq323 #4286

possibly terrible idea: someone picks discussion topics regularly

i agree with heav here. i do actually agree with several of your criticisms of minecraft, and i probably would be interested in contributing to this project once it exists.

(also, i'm currently working on my own project which is vaguely similar to this? it's not a minecraft clone, it's played on a 2d hex grid for instance, but i am planning to address in it many of the same weaknesses of minecraft that you've talked about too. in particular the stuff about variety of worldgen, and structures and things. actually i'd be quite interested to talk about how worldgen without biomes might work but i don't want to derail this thread more than i already have)

the advantage of mod apis is that you can have hundreds and thousands of mods, all of which are going to be mostly compatible with each other, and the individual player gets to choose exactly what combination they want. if you merged all these features into the base game (or a relatively smaller number of forks) then you wouldn't have that freedom of choice.

and if you are thinking 'well, that freedom of choice doesn't sound like fun to me' that's fine, but given the popularity of modding across a wide variety of video games, it seems like a lot of people have a different idea of fun to you.

i don't understand why people keep testing this, the code is right here

a.gh0.pw is red, g.gh0.pw is green, d.gh0.pw is blue. makes it easier to tell which is which when you have lots of tabs open

in any case, how would processing johnvertisements on the server-side reduce the number of required http requests? the browser is going to have to request that image regardless of where it's requesting that image from.
